Paying it Forward: Blog Giveaway!

***CONTEST CLOSED***
Random.Org selected #4 as the winner.
Congratulations Vivian.

This week I received a very exciting package in the mail. It was the custom-made cookies that I had won on a blog giveaway. Melissa, at Making it Sweet, ran a little contest on her blog over the summer and I was selected as the winner. You can read more about it here.

How cute are these cookies? Look at that perfectly-detailed VW camper van, all the way down to the little air-cooling vents on the side. Swoon!

Anyway, it was so much fun being the winner of a little blog giveaway and getting a present in the mail, I thought I would pay it forward.  So, dear blog readers, I will be giving away a fabulous 2011 Nikki McClure calendar to one lucky reader.

Nikki McClure of Olympia, Washington, is known for her intricate and beautiful paper cuts. Using an X-acto knife, she cuts out her images from a single sheet of paper. The theme for her 2011 calendar is Endeavour.

This could be yours!
To enter, please leave a comment on this blog post telling me one thing you "endeavour" to do in 2011. Please leave your comment by 11 PM (PST) on October 18, 2010 and be sure to include your name, so I know who you are if you are the winner.

Fine print: Please only leave one comment for this giveaway, because it’s the nice thing to do, and also because multiple entries will be disqualified. I’ll use random.org to select the winner, and I’ll announce who won at the top of this post and in a separate post next Tuesday.

My goal is to be more mindful. I am reading a book called Full Catastrope Living about realizing that you have it within you to make a difference in your own life for the better. I have noticed changes in my stress level for the better and endeavor to continue learning and applying the lessons learned to other aspects of my life. :-)

As a teacher, it's hard to say what I endeavor to do for 2011 - our goals tend to go with the school year/summer break cycle. For this school year, my goal is to get my kids to feel more empowered about their own learning by more explicitly stating learning goals and allowing them to reach them at different times (staggered tests and retesting skills as needed). Personally, I have been taking a break from my watercolors at the beginning of the school year, but plan on working more with them as soon as the first quarter is over.

I am hoping to complete all of the administrative tasks that I have this academic year without sacrificing quality of my classes and quality of my home life. It's quite an endevour, and if push comes to shove, I'll forget the administrative stuff :)

Care less about work, more about the kids. I don't want to look back and feel like I missed out. On the other hand, I'd like to look back at work and feel like I was able to put it aside for the important things in life.

My goal is two-fold: one, to complete the 'Triple Crown' - 3 San Diego half marathons in 2011... with minimal complaining! Training can be difficult and time-consuming, and running is not easy for me, but I can change my perspective and really attempt to see this goal in a positive light every step of the way. And two, to meditate for at least 20 minutes twice a day...so I can calm my mind, be present, be peaceful, and be joyful - consistently - from within. I'd like the real divine 'me' to shine through - and not be the stressed out, complaining, exhausted, ego 'me' that takes over too much.

2011....wow...I will be focusing my efforts on being a better friend. For too long, I have relegated friends to a secondary role in my life, using work as an excuse. Events of 2010 hit me over the head with the realization that I have missed out on so much with my friends. The good news is that these human beings understand that everyone is fallible and offer forgiveness and understanding. My partner is my best friend; my heart and life has room for many others.

My goal for 2011 is to bring more spirituality to my family. We're learning to make prayer and expressions of gratitude part of our regular routine; my husband and I are renewing our vows and having our marriage blessed in the church; and I'm getting baptized for the first time along with my children. I hope to provide some grounding and sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves.

I will endeavor to collect my recipes into one location, and also be in a digital format. This is Part 2 of my three-part New Year's Resolution. Part 1 (this year) was to eat more seasonally. So far, so good!
